And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. — Philippians 4:8
Anyone who has ever been in the sales industry understands the importance of having a positive attitude. When I made my living as a sales professional, it was part of my job to have a constant awareness of my thoughts and attitude. We were required to use positive reinforcement affirmations about our sales abilities, which proved to create a positive influence on our sales results. Athletes do the same thing. It is common knowledge that our thoughts are self-fulfilling. What you think about is what you are going to experience in the future. These same sentiments are found in many different professional venues, but did you know there are numerous scriptures that tell us this is TRUTH?
It is important when dealing with any health issue to be aware of what your mind is telling your body. If we think about how sick we are and how devastating this disease is, then it will continue to devastate us. If we fear life in the future as being wheelchair bound, or we fear surgery is imminent, then that is probably what is going to happen. Our bodies will respond to our thoughts. If we affirm that our bodies are healing themselves and we feed them with positive reinforcement, our bodies will respond to these thoughts.
Jesus said, “All of you listen, and try to understand. Your souls aren’t harmed by what you eat, but by what you think and say.” — Mark 7:14-16
The mind is constantly thinking. Often we are not even conscious of what we are thinking. Our thoughts literally run from one thing to another and they run wild if we don’t control them. Lack of mind control is lack of discipline and many of our illnesses are created by this lack of discipline. In this scripture Jesus is telling us to pay attention; this is important. He wants us to “get it.” What you THINK is going to AFFECT you. Can’t you hear the urgency in His voice? Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Then Proverbs 14:30 tells us, “A relaxed attitude lengthens a man’s life.” Again in Proverbs, chapter 17:22 we are told, “A cheerful heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit makes one sick.”
It is important to listen to what our minds are saying; stopping the negative thoughts as soon as we hear them, and immediately replacing them with positive ones. It will force the soul to accept that we no longer allow those thoughts. We are the only ones who can control our thoughts. We must also listen to what our bodies are telling us, and have our minds respond to it with positive affirmations. For instance, if you have severe back pain or you have cancer, do not deny the reality. But, with positive affirmations based on the scriptures, instruct your body what you want it to do. An example is: “God created my body and He knows exactly what is wrong with it. He heals me.” “I am a child of God. As my Father, He provides me with perfect health.” “Every cell in my body responds to God’s perfect health.” You can be very specific responding to what you hear your body telling you.
When you first take control of your mind, you will notice you are constantly intercepting negative thoughts, but as you continue with positive instructions, directing your body to heal itself, the negative thoughts dissipate. You automatically transition to thinking positively, and your body responds positively. Part of the process of divine healing is learning how the Body-Mind-Spirit work together as one.
