Say it out loud, “My life is shaped by my thoughts. It says it in the scripture.” It has been proven by those who are terminally ill, the ones who have a positive attitude are much more likely to survive than those who have a negative attitude. The Power of Positive thinking is truth when the Power comes from God.
There must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. — Ephesians 4:23 (NLT)
Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. — Romans 12:26 (NLT)
It doesn’t get any clearer than these two scriptures. You’ve got to get your attitude right and you might even need an attitude adjustment. A bad attitude is like a cancer in the brain. It destroys. The good news is God transforms. You can become a new person simply by changing the way you think, and He is there to transform you.
…. fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. — Philippians 4:8
Fix our thoughts on what is true. The only truth is the Word of God. So, we are to fix our thoughts on the Word of God. Think about what is good and right. God is the only Good thing there is. (Matthew 19:17.) The scripture also says, God is Good and righteous. (Psalms 107:1) What is pure? That which has not been tarnished by sin. What has not been tarnished by sin? Jesus. He is the only one. So, keep our minds on the Word of God. Keep our minds on God who is good and right, and keep our minds on Jesus who is pure. Then we are told to dwell on the fine, good things in others. Why do you think He wants us to dwell on the goodness of others?
Finally we are told to praise God for what makes us happy. He has given us the formula for having a positive attitude right here in this one scripture. If you get up in the morning and you’re ill, it is hard to think about positive things. Think about the goodness in someone else. Think about the lady who called to check on you yesterday, and how thoughtful she was to take her time to care about you. Think about the nurse at the doctor’s office who called in your prescription, even though it was past her time to go home. You get the idea… put your thoughts on the good in other people. When you start your day off by setting your thoughts on positive things in others, you don’t start off by going down that spiraling hole of depression. It is so easy to be depressed when you are ill. That is the devil’s greatest and most successful tool. If he can get you depressed, then he has you.
It is very hard to stay sad when you start praising God. If all you can get to come out of your mouth is a weak “Hallelujah,” then just keep repeating that one word and you will soon find you want to say, “Praise you, God.” “Thank you, Jesus.” Just keep repeating what you can say, and the Joy of the Lord will inhabit your praise. (Psalms 22:3)
These scriptures are God’s instruction for a positive attitude. Memorize them. Repeat them until you get them into your memory. Once you have them committed to memory, keep repeating them, and it will become deep seated into your spirit. That is when the Word becomes alive in you. Once you have repeated it so much that it gets into your spirit, it becomes who you are. God will transform you.
